Topic: Christianitys Modern Life
While aimlessly shopping today I came upon HIS Will Computer Surplus Store, just off Hey 291 on East 23rd St. Seeing they were a Christian company I figgered Id leave a poster for THE GROOVE MACHINE there. While talking to their employees/manager they see Im playing Christian Goth artists and get all sarcastic and nasty. Seeing this was going to degenerate fast into a argument with no one winning--and considering I might want to shop there in the future--I closed out ths discussion and left. But what it boiled down to on their side was "Appearance is everything." Never mind lifestyle, or lyrical witness...how can you do Christian music if one "dresses like the Devil?"
Id really thought the christian community had gone beyond this narrow, trite attitude. But when you get right down to it, how is wearing black with a little makeup "dressing like the Devil?" If one reads their Bible, Lucifer is described as a Angel of Light--an angel who believed he was more brilliant than God, whose brilliance decieves so many...
As far as Im concerned, all this paranoia over a bunch of harmless goth kids by Christians (and conservative squares in general)is so misplaced. Ive met some of em, and maybe they do look a little strange,(dont we all look a little strange to each other?)theyre generally a nice, quiet, sensitive bunch. AND just in need of Jesus as us tightly wound suit-and-tie types who look down on them.
Get with it, people-the witch hunt went out of style in the 1700s.
